Leprechaun in the Hood (2000)

Leprechaun in the Hood is one of the worst movies in the genre. It has a very small budget, a bad plot with a lot of annoying stereotypes, and a few characters who are portrayed in a very bad way (most notably Fontaine). Even so, it still shows an almost unbelievable amount of heart.

They even exceed the Leprechaun himself in this episode, which is saying a lot given the fact that the Leprechaun smokes cannabis with Ice-T. Postmaster P (Anthony Montgomery), Stray Bullet (Rashaan Nall), and Butch (Red Grant) are by far the most powerful characters in the series.

Their friendship is healthy because they demonstrate their love and understanding in public. Despite the fact that they are all independent, admirable people who stand firm.

Thanks to the excellent work of Montgomery, Nall, and Grant, this is possible (a genuine rarity in this franchise). I'd definitely be interested in watching a film about their existence as struggling artists.

It doesn't detract from the humor of the Leprechaun series, but rather adds a layer of complexity to the characters who would otherwise be flat and uninteresting.
The finest scenes in the film are those between the guys as they attempt to pull themselves together and keep their dream alive.

What is even more shocking is the fact that they have the funniest scenes! They made me laugh far more than Leprechaun did (original blog) last time around, owing to Butch's dance in the church, trying to sell an obviously fake Hendrix instrument, and a true Scooby-Doo reference.

It's no wonder that Leprechaun in The Hood is of such poor overall quality.

What's astonishing, however, is how much Postmaster P, Stray Bullet, and Butch have to contribute as characters. Yes, they are confined by the film they are placed in, but they all offer very real and passionate performances throughout, ending in the series' lone heartbreaking deaths.

Leprechaun 5 is a gem in the rough compared to other Leprechauns.
